📣Breaking Texas
The Texas Secretary of State recently and quietly decertified all ES&S brand of electronic pollbooks after discovering they provided incorrect ballots to tens of thousands of voters in Dallas County and potentially affected millions of voters in 60 other counties.
Key points:
- The issue impacts down-ballot races rather than Presidential and Statewide contests
- Affected voters may have:
- Voted in races they weren't constitutionally eligible for
- Been denied the opportunity to vote on tax bonds and other races they were eligible for
- The problem can occur with any electronic pollbook used outside an assigned Precinct polling location
- At least 99 of largest Texas counties use electronic pollbooks
- Tenex Electronic Pollbooks systems, which reportedly have the same defect, have not been decertified
- This issue was previously raised in 2022, resulting in a $20,000 sanction to deter from seeking remedy
- Efforts are ongoing to pressure the Texas Secretary of State's office for further remedies
